This is a brand new manufactured in the UK, Right Rear Shock Absorber for Austin Healey Sprite and MG Midget rear springs (1/4 and semi-elliptic from AN 4333 onward, Sept of 1958). Being a vital part of the rear suspension of the Sprite Midget they must be kept in tip top shape. Over time the bushings in the shock absorber wear which causes slop in the suspension and will let the shock oil leak out. All of these failures will lead to a poor driving Sprite or MG Midget. How do you know if you need new shock absorbers? If the valving or piston seal inside the shock body are warn wearing the fluid flows uncontrolled (un-dampened) and even the smallest steering wheel movement or modest brake will allow extreme movement of the shock are within the cylinder. This means that if you make turn for instance then the weight of the vehicle will shift harder during the turn and the driver will have to correct it, causing a swerve. Or under braking, the weight will shift forward causing a nose dive and the front tires can skid. All of this makes your Sprite Midget unsafe to drive with worn pieces.
