Description

If you car has a carbureted made by Zenith Stromberg you should always keep an eye on the plug and seal. The Stromberg carburetor is prone to float bowl gasoline leaks. Since the exhaust manifold is located be-neath the carburetor(s), any fuel leaking out poses a significant fire hazard! If the car has been used with fuel that has ethanol, the ethonal breaks down the plastic over time and can cause a leak.  Stromberg 150 & 175 CDSE carburetors have a plastic plug in the bottom of the float bowl. You might be fooled into thinking that its brass because there is often a brass covering on it. This plug replaces the adjustable jet on early Stromberg “CD” carburetors of the mid 1960’s. After about 1968 these carburetors have a fixed jet. However, the float bowl plug is sealed in the bottom of the float bowl with a rubber O-ring. This O-ring gets “tired” and begins to leak, particularly if it’s been disturbed. The plastic plug is held into the float bowl with “barbs” on the inner end. It’s a simple matter of care- fully squeezing the end and pulling the plug out of the float bowl.  Fits all 150 & 175 CDSE Stromberg carburetors. Cross Reference 696-080
