This is the update heavy duty Crankshaft rear seal that presses into the flywheel housing (aka clutch seal or primary oil seal). Rover found in 1992 that a robust seal was needed as more mileage was put on the Mini. The new material was is Viton which has a longer service life and is more heat resistant than the standard Red Seal. Also the spring tension was increased to insure a tight fit. But as some of the racers have found out is that with extended racing at 8000 rpm the seal can be overheated. But this only happens at extended periods of high rpm and has not been a factor with street applications. For high use Mini's this a great idea to replace this seal to keep your Mini leak free. Also a tech tip, it is very easy to damage this seal when installing the primary gear. To keep the gear from damaging the seal put a thin piece of heavy paper around the primary gear. This will allow the gear to slide in the paper and when installed you simply remove the paper. Also very important is that is seal is only for the manual transmission vehicles.
